Lachlan takes home first-place as Eagles soar at Maryville Duel Meet

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, the Carson-Newman cross country team swept the top spot at the Maryville Duel Meet at Greene Farm Saturday morning.

Freshman Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the men's competition, his first career race win, and freshman Tori Gaul (Salisbury, N.C.) placed second.

"We had a great showing on a tough course. Ladies packed well up top and competed well with a strong Maryville team. Gents packed well, it's great to see them help with each other in the race," coach Tony Parrilla said.

For the men's team, Carson-Newman placed four runners in the top-five. Sophomore Alec Bross (Charlotte, N.C.) placed second, sophomore Tyler Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn.) ran the fourth-quickest time and sophomore Joshua Marsh (Orlando, Fla.) rounded out the top-five.

"Dickie absolutely raced to drop their front runner and held on for the win. Alec Bross ran out of his skull to a strong finish."

On the women's side behind Gaul's second-place performance, two more Eagles placed in the top-five. Junior Hannah Kiser (Cedar Park, Texas) and freshman Duncan Sparks (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed fourth and fifth, respectfully.

Carson-Newman runs next Saturday at the Louisville Invitational, one of the most-prestigious cross country events, in Louisville, Ky.
