EMORY, Va. – The Eagles swept Emory & Henry 4-0 in a midweek conference match, stacking their first wins in a row since they began the season with wins against Montreat and King.
The Eagles are now 5-7 on the year with a 2-3 record in conference matches.
"It's really good for our confidence to stack some wins now and we need that for what's ahead, said head coach Nate Gangelhoff.
Hala Awad and Abinaya Sweeton grabbed a 6-3 win at first doubles and were supported at second doubles by a 6-0 domination from Leah McBride and Mar Fraile. Fraile and McBride continue to work their doubles mark up toward .500; they are 4-5 while Awad and Sweeton are 1-2 on the year.
Hala Awad kept the momentum going, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles. The senior continues to be solid in the one slot for C-N, at 6-1 on the season in individual play.
"Solid tennis from Hala in both doubles and singles today," said Gangelhoff.
Andrea Aguiar was the other winner for the Eagles in straight games at the fifth sixth line. The sophomore is 3-2 in her singles matches this season.
The Wasps had to forfeit the third doubles line and the sixth singles line with no players available.
Kerrigan Spiers was tied 3-3 at second singles in her first set before the match ended. Sindjia Manovska had won her first set 6-1 and was tied 1-1 in the second, but her match went unfinished as well. Mar Fraile also won the first set 6-3, and was up 1-0 in the second before the clinch.
In the five all-time matches against Emory & Henry, the Eagles have never lost to the Wasps.
"I am excited for the near future for our girls, because now we have some momentum and confidence," Gangelhoff said.
