Top-seeded Eagles host LMU in SAC Tournament quarterfinals
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the first time in South Atlantic Conference Tournament history and only the second time in the postseason, the 15th-ranked and top-seeded Carson-Newman women’s soccer team (15-2, 10-1 SAC) will host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (5-8-3. 3-6-2 SAC) on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals at McCown Field.

The Eagles beat the Railsplitters 3-1 in the 2004 NCAA Tournament in the two programs' lone postseason meeting.
C-N appeared in five SAC Tournaments before picking up its first win; the Eagles' first win in postseason play game against Wingate in 2000 by way of a 1-0 result. Carson-Newman is 12- 12-3 all-time in the conference tournament and 22-18-3 all-time in postseason play. The Eagles' last win in the SAC tourney occurred in the 2009 title game with a 3-1 victory over L-R.
Carson-Newman shutout LMU earlier this season in Harrogate 3-0. Varin Ness (Sogndal, Norway) opened the scoring in the sixth-minute and Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) and Nikki McWilliams (Saintfield, Northern Ireland) added scores in the second half. C-N outshot the 'Splitters 18-13.
Claire Leasure led LMU in scoring in the regular season with six goals and three assists. Olivia Thompson was second on the team with five goals. Forward Michelle Hunter led the team with 43 shots registered. Eighteen of LMU's 35 goals were scored against Hiawassee, a first-year NAIA program. In their final three games of regular season play, the Railsplitters scored just one goal and lost to Mars Hill, who did not make the tournament, and Anderson. Lincoln Memorial knocked off Catawba 1-0 on Saturday to lock in the eight-seed in the tournament.
Kathryn Lundy started against Carson-Newman and allowed three goals in the seven shots she faced. On the year, she allowed 20 goals with a 1.70 goals against average and had a save percentage of .740.
Herrity led the Eagles with 14 goals on the year and Ness added 10 scores. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Fraiture (Hebron, Ky.) started every contest in net for C-N and recorded the third-lowest goals against average in the league with 0.88 goals against on the year.
Carson-Newman has won its last eight contests, dating back to an Oct. 3rd loss to Anderson (S.C.). Since falling to the Trojans, the Eagles have scored 24 goals.
Ticket prices for the doubleheader will be five dollars for adults, three dollars for younger under the age of 12, seniors over the age of 55 and active and retired military. College students that show their ID will be charged two dollars and anyone under the age of five will be admitted free of charge.
