First road test of 2015 lies ahead as Eagles travel to Mars Hill
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women’s soccer team (4-1, 2-0 SAC) ventures out of Jefferson City for the first time this season as the Eagles embark on a 75-mile journey to the Tar Heel State to face South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill (0-6, 0-2 SAC) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday night at Ammons Family Athletic Complex and Meares Stadium.

Carson-Newman enters the match as one of three SAC that is undefeated in league play, as Wingate and Catawba also own a 2-0 mark. Mars Hill is one of four conference teams that is winless being joined by Newberry, Coker and Tusculum.
"They are a good team and disciplined going forward. Obviously, they are starting to pick up results, a little bit unfortunate in that respect. They are a much improved team from last year and very dangerous at home considering we are playing on turf. We have to adjust to the speed of play and it is a tough place to go and play," Moodie said.
Reigning SAC Player of the Week Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) leads the Eagles' attack; Herrity leads the team with three goals and is tied for 10th in the league. C-N is averaging 2.60 goals a game and 21.2 shots per game.
Mars Hill enters the contest with a 14-game SAC losing streak, which dates back to a 3-2 overtime win over Brevard on October 25th, 2013. Since then, the Lions have fell to the other 11 teams in the league once and have lost to Catawba three times and Wingate twice. They have dropped to the Indians and Bulldogs this year. Mars Hill is coached by Carson-Newman graduate Ken Miller who was a four-time letterman in the Blue and Orange and served as the team captain.
The 2015 edition of the Lions has scored eight goals, which is one off their offensive total in 2014. Sophomore Breona Tate has four of the team's eight goals, including a score in the 3-2 loss to Catawba on Saturday. Knoxville, Tenn.-native Hannah Russell has two of the other goals for Mars Hill. Junior goalkeeper Maslyn Greene returns in net for the Lions and she has allowed 17 goals and made 37 saves; the junior possess a .685 save percentage.
The two teams are meeting for the 26th-time and Carson-Newman has owned the series history. The Eagles are currently riding a seven-game win streak over the Lions are 22-2-1 all-time. Last season, C-N knocked off Mars Hill 4-1 in the team's only conference win; sophomore Camilla Olsson (Trondheim, Norway), sophomore Helen Seed (Preston, England), junior Nora Logan (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Chelsea Jordan (Knoxville, Tenn.) all scored in the win.
