In total, four Eagles sit in the tournament's top-10, which leads the tournament.
Carson-Newman is tied for the tournament lead with Newberry.
"I enjoyed today's round. I felt like I got in my grove early and did well keeping one shot at a time as my game plan," England said. "I'm looking for the same tomorrow."
England used 13 pars and two birdies to set the first round standard.
Juniors Meridith Hawkins (Knoxville, Tenn.), Rebekah Pruett (Niceville, Fla.) and sophomore Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) all sit tied for 8th-place after shooting a 78 on the first day.
Freshman Mikaela Thibodeau (Davie, Fla.) is tied for 15th place after finishing the first round with an 82. Junior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished the round with an 85, placing her in a tie for 20th.
"Team did well but we can improve. Elizabeth showed us that if we don't get ahead or stay stuck on bad shots, this course is open for lower scores," coach Suzanne Studwick said. "I'm looking for Meredith to do much better tomorrow and Kelli. This was the best round to date for Jessica, much improved from the SMI."
The Eagles will look to continue to fly high as the Etowah Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday morning.
