JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman men's tennis team has added a pair of players for the 2010 season, head coach Jean Love announced.
Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) and Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) have both signed to play with the Eagles.
Holdway and Birdsong are standouts at Etowah High School, where they led the Eagles to three straight region championships, including a 27-2 record in 2008 and a berth in the state finals.
Holdway holds a 45-10 singles record and is currently ranked seventh in the state of Georgia. Holdway, who won the Coach's Award in 2007, also played line one or line three in doubles action during the last three seasons.
Birdsong, who was ranked third in Georgia Boy's 16 doubles in 2006 and 54th in Georgia Boy's 18 singles in 2008, has won nine United States Tennis Association Georgia state doubles titles and has made it to five USTA Georgia state singles finals.
Carson-Newman went 7-6 in 2008, making it to the South Atlantic Conference tournament semifinals.
