Eagles Fall to North Greenville, 5-4

Greer, SC - The Carson- Newman men's tennis team was unable to recover from two doubles losses and were defeated 5-4 by the North Greenville Crusaders. The Eagles fall to 1-1 on the season and in South Atlantic Conference play.
In doubles play, Guiseppe and Rudolpho Schwarz (Brazil) took down 8-2 to North Greenville's Juan Carlos Aguilera and Jacob Rogers for the Carson-Newman win.
In the No. 2 match, Jack Harvie (Snellville, Ga.) and Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) were defeated by Timur Kamilou and Gabriel Altmayer, 8-3. Adriano Kira (Brazil) and Trent Slagle (Knoxville, Tenn.) were unable to hold off the Crusaders William Ho and Guilherme Vasquez, in an 8-2 decision.
The Eagles fought back in singles play, winning three of six matches. Kamilou slid past Schwarz 5-1 in the No. 1 match. Aguilera defeated Harvie in a close match-up 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. Slagle fell to Ho in the No. 3 match 6-4, 6-3.
The Eagle wins came from the final three flights. Kira defeated Altmayer with a decisive victory 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 5 match, Schwarz slid past Vasquez 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Acker took down Rogers 6-4, 6-1 in the final match.
The Eagles return to action at home on Saturday March 7 against Alabama-Huntsville. The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
