Eagles host Cavs to wrap up three-match homestand
Carson-Newman (6-9, 4-5 SAC) will look to get back into the win column Tuesday after suffering a Saturday loss to #16 Queens Royals from the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (6-9, 4-5 SAC) will look to get back into the win column Tuesday after suffering a Saturday loss to #16 Queens Royals from the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. The Eagles will welcome in the UVA Wise Highland Cavaliers (1-11, 0-9 SAC) to Mossy Creek as the final home match of 2021 regular season.
"Our men have supported the women and vice versa. This is a tight-knit team and this season has made us closer together," head coach Jim Frederick said.
In the last week, C-N split both home matches as they claimed a clean 7-0 sweep of the Mars Hill Lions last Tuesday before falling to the #16 Queens (N.C.) Royals on Saturday by a 6-1 score.
Although the Eagles were handed a 6-1 team defeat, sophomore Marc Janse (Zeewolde, Netherlands) continued his hot streak in 2021 as he moved to 9-0 in SAC singles. With his ninth win of the year against SAC, Janse also improves his overall record to 11-4 in 2021, which is second most in a single season for C-N. He currently sits one match away from tying Jonathan Allen's mark of 12-6 in 2013. Janse is also part of the team-leading doubles pair with junior Rintaro Oka (Narita, Japan). Together, the duo has compiled a 3-3 SAC record and an overall record of 4-3.
Janse was awarded the title of AstroTurf SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday by the SAC office after his impressive conference start (9-0) and spark to the Eagles as the season dwindles down.
The two programs will meet for only the second time on Tuesday as C-N was able to claim the series lead with a 7-0 sweep of the Cavs from Knoxville in April of 2019.
UVA Wise has lost nine straight matches since claiming its lone 2021 win over Randolph College on Feb. 21 by a 5-4 margin.
First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Tuesday from Jefferson City between the Cavs and the Eagles. Be sure to keep up with all things Carson-Newman men's tennis at cneagles.com and via all social media accounts.
