ATLANTA, Ga. – Carson-Newman returns home after facing Division I Georgia Tech and Auburn where the Eagles fell to last place.
The Eagles traveled to the McAuley Aquatics Center in Atlanta, Ga. to kick off the second half of the 2024-25 season in a meet against nationally ranked Georgia Tech and Auburn where the Eagles fell to third place in the tri-meet.
"Overall, I thought the meet was good but not great," said head coach Ben Young. We definitely have some things to work on moving forward and some psychological things to work through. We are not racing anymore division I teams this season. It's the initial shock when the heat sheet comes out and the swimmers see a pool full of top tier swimmers. Georgia Tech is not a slow team and Auburn certainly is not a slow team. I think some of the shock got to the team, but as we talked through things and got the meet going, their approach became really good."
On the men's side, Carson-Newman fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a final score of 250-43. The women's squad fell in a score of 243-42.
Arthur Gluzman had a big day for the Eagles in the 100-yard freestyle earning a time of 44.85 which was good enough for 6th place. Daniel de Oliviera secured a 6th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 45.65.
Megan Corcoran swam her way to 6th place in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:03.89 followed by Maria Tirulli in 9th place in 2:07.11.
Carson-Newman returns home from Atlanta and prepares to welcome Mars Hill to the Mossy Creek for Senior Night on Friday, Jan. 17th beginning at 6pm in the Maddox Student Activities Center.
"We are looking to finish up Christmas training and get back to classes next week," said Young. "We need to focus on fixing a few things and making a few minor adjustments based on what we saw today. We're so excited to celebrate these seniors and everything that they have given to this team. It's a big group, it's a fun group, and it's a group that I have been able to develop a relationship with over the last four years. With every senior class you're going to feel it, but this is a big class and we're going to feel a lot of leadership leave. I know the team is excited to be back in our home pool and send the seniors off in style."
