Dafydd named to All-Southeast Region Third Team

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men’s soccer junior defender Trystan Dafydd (Y Felinheli, Gwyned Wales) was named to the 2012 NSCAA Division II Men All-Southeast Region Third Team, announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America earlier this week. Dafydd, in his first season in a Carson-Newman uniform, started all 17 matches at defender picking up one assist and anchoring the Eagles’ back line of defense.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's soccer junior defender Trystan Dafydd (Y Felinheli, Gwyned Wales) was named to the 2012 NSCAA Division II Men All-Southeast Region Third Team, announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America earlier this week.

Dafydd, in his first season in a Carson-Newman uniform, started all 17 matches at defender picking up one assist and anchoring the Eagles' back line of defense.

"He's a fantastic young man," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "He works hard, he's a leader on and off of the field. He's had a few rough patches but we've gotten through it; he's strong-willed."

Carson-Newman finished the season 8-6-3, with a 6-1-3 mark in the South Atlantic Conference to earn the Eagles a second-place finish in the conference standings. The Eagles' season came to an end in the semifinals of the 2012 SAC Soccer Championship, falling to Lincoln Memorial 1-0 in overtime on Nov. 2.

This is the second honor of the season for Dafydd, as he was named to the All-SAC first team on Oct. 31, along with goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France). Midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway), forward Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.), and defender Evan Preston Kelly (Galway, Ireland), picked up second-team All-SAC honors.

Dafydd took nine shots during the season, three of which were on goal.

"Next year will of course be his last year with us, but we expect him to be an All-American," said Moodie on his expecations for Dafydd in 2013. "That's the kind of quality he is, I think he should be recognized across the nation but when you're a defender it's all about stats. I think that next year the team has to do a little bit better not just for him but there were a lot more players that deserved recognition.

"Hopefully next year we'll do a lot better but we're proud of the players we've got and we're looking forward to next year," said Moodie.
