Eagles pick up All-SAC honors
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Five Carson-Newman Eagles earned All-South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer honors, announced by league officials on Wednesday morning. Goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) and defender Trystan Dafydd (Felinheli, Gwyned Wales) earned first-team All-SAC honors, while forward Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.), midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway), and defender Evan Preston Kelly (Galway, Ireland) picked up second-team All-SAC honors.

Goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) and defender Trystan Dafydd (Felinheli, Gwyned Wales) earned first-team All-SAC honors, while forward Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.), midfielder Sindre Welo (Trondheim, Norway), and defender Evan Preston Kelly (Galway, Ireland) picked up second-team All-SAC honors.
"We're obviously happy for the guys that made All-SAC," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "Five overall is pretty good for Carson-Newman, but I think there are some other players that also deserved a look."
Le Guevel picked up the first-team goalkeeper honors after he went 6-4-3 between the posts for the Eagles, collecting four shutouts. Le Guevel allowed 17 goals during the season while also making 58 saves, a 77 percent save percentage.
Dafydd was a stalwart on a strong back line of defenders for the Eagles, playing and starting in all 15 matches this season for Carson-Newman. Dafydd collected one assist while making three shots in 2012.
Jolley earned second-team All-SAC honors for forward after a season where he was second on the team in shots with 36 and he also scored two goals, collected three assists, accumulating for seven points during his senior season at Mossy Creek.
Welo, in his first season in a Carson-Newman uniform, led the Eagles in scoring with six goals, two assists, 14 points, and 39 shots during the regular season. He also had three-game winning goals, helping the Eagles to a second-place finish in the regular season SAC standings.
Kelly started each match for Carson-Newman at defender and collected two assists with 11 shots and two shots on goal.
Carson-Newman will next play this afternoon in the 2012 SAC Soccer Championship quarterfinals, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne at McCown Field.
The winner of this match moves on to the 2012 Food Lion SAC Soccer Championship Semifinals, which will be played on Friday Nov. 1 at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. The final will be played Sunday at 4 p.m. in Rock Hill.
