JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (4-3, 2-1 SAC) men's soccer team will welcome the Tusculum Pioneers (4-3-1) to McCown Field on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles have won four of their last five matches, and are coming off a 2-1 loss against Wingate last Saturday. In Carson-Newman's last home match, the Eagles defeat LMU last Wednesday night at McCown Field.
"There's a lot of emotions that will be built into this," said Carson-Newman head coach Richard Moodie. "We need to make sure that we don't lose focus on what we need to do. It's our second game at home and you'd like to think you won't give up easily at home and not going to concede goals and not lose at home."
Sophomore midfielder Joao Pedro Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has scored in back-to-back matches for the Eagles, and on Saturday he scored Carson-Newman's lone goal on Saturday against Wingate. He scored in the 10th minute mark on an unassisted goal on a line drive from just inside of the box into the corner to put the Eagles on top 1-0.
"The kid's playing great," said Moodie. "We're excited that he's playing well. This kid's got plenty of goals left in him this season."
Tusculum is coming off a 1-0 victory over Anderson on Saturday, with Andre Bissmark providing the lone goal for the Pioneers. The Pioneers were picked to win the SAC in the 2012 conference preseason poll, and Tusculum features four players that earned preseason All-SAC honors.
"They (Tusculum) are well coached, they play a very attractive style of soccer," Moodie said. "They're very aggressive, they score a lot of goals, they have some players that can change games, but I like to think that we can do all of the above as well."
Last season Tusculum defeated Carson-Newman 4-0 in Greeneville.
There are several activities planned before the match at McCown Field. Five skydivers will deliver the game ball from the air and down onto the pitch, with that event starting at 7:15 p.m. There will also be t-shirts given away prior to the match. Merrill Lynch and Blain Potter will sponsor the event.
An audio webcast of the match will be available on www.cneagles.com, with coverage on the Coca-Cola Eagle Sports Network beginning at 7:25 p.m.
