May 22, 2009
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman volleyball team will face five participants from last year's NCAA Southeast Regional as part of its 2009 schedule, Lady Eagle coach Shannon Mincey announced Friday.
Three of those teams -- Lincoln Memorial, Wingate and Catawba -- make up six of C-N's conference matches. The Lady Eagles will also take on regional participants Anderson (S.C.) and Francis Marion in non-conference action.
The Lady Eagles, which went 24-15 in 2008 and earned a No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional, open the season on Aug. 28 in the annual C-N Labor Day Tournament at Holt Fieldhouse against Glenville and Peach Belt Conference runner-up Frances Marion, the fifth seed in last season's Southeast Regional.
C-N will hit the road for the first time on Sept. 1 at King College, and the Tornados will return the favor with a trip to Holt Fieldhouse on Nov. 3.
The Lady Eagles open South Atlantic Conference play on Sept. 15 at Lincoln Memorial. C-N went 2-2 against the Railsplitters last season, with one loss coming in the SAC Tournament and the other a season-ending loss in the Southeast Regional.
SAC rival Tusculum travels to Holt Fieldhouse on Sept. 22 for the first two regular season matchups. The Lady Eagles will conclude the series with a visit to Tusculum on Oct. 20.
C-N will face defending SAC champion Wingate at home on Oct. 9 and will travel to Wingate, N.C., for a match on Nov. 6.
The Lady Eagles will wrap up regular season play on Nov. 7 at Catawba before competing in the SAC Tournament at Tusculum on Nov. 12-14.
