C-N closes out regular season in Queen City
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (34-10, 16-4 South Atlantic Conference) has already locked up its 14th regular season SAC title, now the Eagles are trying to win it outright. A win by C-N over Saturday’s opponent Queens (10-30, 5-13 SAC), or an Anderson loss to Coker would give C-N the title without having to share it.

VIDEO: Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (34-10, 16-4 South Atlantic Conference) has already locked up its 14th regular season SAC title, now the Eagles are trying to win it outright. A win by C-N over Saturday's opponent Queens (10-30, 5-13 SAC), or an Anderson loss to Coker would give C-N the title without having to share it.
"The message we give the kids is to get a good night's rest tonight and be ready to play tomorrow," Carson-Newman head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield said. "To work this hard to be in the position that we are, there's no question that these kids want to win it outright. It feels like this team is still very hungry."
With two wins, Carson-Newman would match its longest winning streak of the season. The Eagles won eight games in a row to close the month of February before splitting a doubleheader with Concord to start March.
The Eagles were ranked fourth in the first region rankings, which came out Wednesday. Carson-Newman is a spot in front of Anderson and a spot behind GRU Augusta.
Queens has struggled to score runs at time this year, the Royals are second to last in the league with 3.65 runs per game. Royals' pitching has a 4.73 ERA, which is at the bottom of the league as well.
Carson-Newman's offense features six regulars who bat .350 or better. SAC Player of the Year candidate Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) leads the way in that regard with the top average in the SAC with a .473 average.
Lockett is coming off her third, four-hit game of the year. The Eagles clinched the SAC title with a three-run comeback against Tusculum Thursday. Hayley Burnette (Rossville, Ga.) had the game-winning hit with a line drive single to left center.
Live stats for the doubleheader will be available at cneagles.com/live.
