Duffy announces latest recruiting class
Carson-Newman coach Simon Duffy has announced the signings of two talented recruits
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman coach Simon Duffy has announced the signings of two talented recruits to join the Carson-Newman women's soccer program, bringing in local talent Molly Zander and Alayna Corbitt.
"We are delighted to be adding these two local and talented players to our roster," Duffy said.
Molly Zander- 5-6 – MF – Baneberry, Tenn. – Jefferson County High School
High School: Dual sport athlete at Jefferson County High School, competing as part of the Patriot soccer and track and field programs. As part of the Patriot soccer program, Zander was named first team All-Conference in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade. Zander was also named the Midfield Player of the Year in eleventh grade.
Personal: Daughter of Nancy and Gary Zander. Niece of former Cincinnati Bengals and University of Tennessee football star Carl Zander. Sister, Abbie, is a junior for Carson-Newman women's soccer and older sister, Kate, was a member of Carson-Newman women's soccer from 2020-21. Undecided major at Carson-Newman.
Duffy on Zander: "Molly Zander will be joining us for the spring semester and I have no doubt she will strengthen our midfield," Duffy said. "The Zander name will be no stranger to C-N women's soccer as Kate and Abbie have recently played together. We have watched Molly over the past few years develop and grow as a player both for club and high school."
Alayna Corbitt – 5-6 – D – Knoxville, Tenn. – Bearden High School
High School: Member of the Bearden Bulldogs girls team who finished first in the region and are currently ranked third in the nation for 2021. Helped lead the Bulldogs to a district and region championship before winning the state championship for the first time since 2007. Part of the Bulldogs team who broke a program record for shutouts with 19, marking the first time a Bearden girls team finished the season undefeated. Set a new program record for goals allowed with eight all season, including only one in postseason action. Named team captain, HS defender of the year, All-District first team, All-Region first team, All-State, and played in the All-American game in 2021. Collected HS defender of the year and district defender of the year laurels in 2020 while also being named All-District.
Personal: Daughter of David and Sandra Corbitt. Intends to study Business at Carson-Newman. Member of the National Honors Society and Key club at Bearden. Also recruited by Lenoir Rhyne, Catawba, Troy, Lander, LMU, MTSU, and Tennessee Weslyan.
Duffy on Corbitt: "Alayna Corbitt is a player we are excited to bring into the program for the fall. She plays as a central defender or even as a holding midfielder," Duffy said. "Very comfortable on the ball and has very good positional sense. I have no doubt she will make an impact on our team and program this fall."
