WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles soccer team beat the University of the Cumberlands Patriots 3-1 in an exhibition match on Saturday.
The win caps the exhibition schedule for the Lady Eagles, who previously beat King College 2-0 on August 18.
"We're off to the right start," said Carson-Newman head coach and Director of Soccer Richard Moodie. "We're ready for the regular season and the real deal this week. Still room for improvement but very happy, the girls are scoring goals."
The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Sam Thomsit scored with just under ten minutes left to play.
Carson-Newman added to its total in the second period with goals from preseason All-SAC selection Brooke Ehman and Danna Stringle, who has scored in both of C-N's exhibitions this season.
Stringle is in her first year in the orange and blue after transferring from the University of the Cumberlands this past year, as she scored against her former team on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Kendra Ivans only allowed one goal to the Cumberlands near the end of the match. She also collected one save in the 3-1 win.
Carson-Newman will open its 2012 season on August 31 with a tournament at Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. The home opener for the Lady Eagles is on September 12 against North Georgia at 6 p.m. at McCown Field.
