C-N drops a pair of hard-fought matches on final day in Macon

The Eagles dropped a close 3-2 match to the State College of Florida to open the day before falling 4-1 to Saint Leo in the final match of the weekend. C-N falls to 10-8 on the season and went 0-4 at the tournament.
MATCH ONE: State College of Florida 3, C-N 2
After taking a 2-1 lead on the Manatees, Carson-Newman dropped matches at the no. two and no. one position, falling to the State College of Florida 3-2.
Yeva Serdiuk and Ana Broadhead rallied at no. five after dropping the first set 21-18 to take the next two sets from Lindsey Geurin and Taylor Keeran 21-15 and 15-10.
Carson-Newman took the next two games at no. four and no. three, with Morgan Siwiec and Alanis Mendez rolling at no. four in straight sets 21-2 and 21-15 over Kayla David and Anna Chechelnytska. The 21-2 margin of victory is the largest of the year for any Eagle pair.
At no. three, Piper Halcrow and McKenna Hall won 21-16 and finished off Kaylee Forman & Taryn Wright in dominating fashion, winning the final set 21-4, giving the Eagles the 2-1 lead.
Danielle Conover and Lana Sandanom knocked off Abby Hildenbrand and Jenny Ille in straight sets, 21-14 and 21-17, tying the match at 2-2.
After taking set one in a hard-fought 29-27 battle, Sierra Still and Mia Toribio dropped the next two sets to Shelby McGee & Giulia Rodrigues 21-19 and 15-13, giving the Manatees their second win of the season over a Division-II foe.
Julia Wheeler and Kenzie Palmer won the exhibition match in straight sets 21-10 and 21-9
MATCH TWO: Saint Leo 4, C-N 1
Carson-Newman pushed four of the five regulation matches to three sets, but it wasn't enough as Saint Leo collected their eleventh win in a row, knocking off the Eagles 4-1 in the two squad's final match of the weekend.
In the only game that went two sets, Elizabeth Sandoval and Amanda Doherty knocked off Geurin and Keeran at no. five by scores of 21-15 and 21-14.
Clare Flanagan and Breanna Reinhar took an early lead on Siwiec and Mendeze at no. four with a 21-17 win in the first set before falling in set two 21-13. The pair clinched the second win of the match for the Lions with a 15-12 win in the third set.
Despite dropping the opening salvo to Ally Reese-Williams and Emma Miller 21-11, Hall and Halcrow recovered to take the win at no. three, winning the next two sets 21-18 and 15-11. The duo were the only pair to go 2-0 on the final day of the Bears Beach Bash for the Eagles.
Aliya Fredette and Leann Potter clinched the match for the Lions with a win at no. two, knocking off Hildenbrand and Ille in three sets. The Lion pair won the first set 21-17, dropped set two 21-16 but closed out the final set in dominating fashion 16-6.
Nina Vattovaz and Jeanette Henderson finished off the match strong at no. one. The duo fell to Still and Toribio in set one 21-15, before taking set two 21-18 and then the final set 15-13.
Wheeler and Palmer won the exhibition match in straight sets 21-16 and 21-11.
Carson-Newman will look to get back on track as they return to Mossy Creek on Thursday, Mar. 31, for Senior Day against Saint Andrews. The doubleheader begins at 2:00 PM at the Carson-Newman beach volleyball courts. Admission is free to anyone who wants to attend.
