Ungur, Burnett to swim for NCAA title Friday night
INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) and freshmen Paul Ungur (Baia Mare, Romania) clinched spots in Championship heats that will be swam Friday evening at the IU Natatorium on the third day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) and freshmen Paul Ungur (Baia Mare, Romania) clinched spots in Championship heats that will be swam Friday evening at the IU Natatorium on the third day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
Burnett will be swimming in her third Championship race in the last three days. The sophomore qualified fifth in the 100 Back with a time of 54.87 seconds. Thursday night, Burnett garnered her first-career All-American honor after finishing third in the 100 Fly. She also competed for gold in the 50 Free on Wednesday. Drury's Katya Rudenko qualified first with a time of 53.92 seconds.
Ungur will also be looking competing in the 100 Back on the men's side. He qualified fifth in the event with a time of 47.56, which is just two-hundredths of a second off his school record mark. He will be looking for his second All-American swam after getting the honor in Thursday night's 200 Free Relay performance. Lindenwood took the top-three qualifying spots in the men's event.
Freshman Lexy Raybon (Sarasota, Fla.) will swim Friday evening in the 200 Fly consolation heat. Raybon swam the event in 2:04.45 and will be swimming for Honorable Mention All-American honors, which would be the first of her career. She qualified 13th in the preliminary heat.
Both the men's and women's teams are 17th in the team rankings.
