ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference has named Tobias Solem Karlsen the AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
This marks Karlsen's second Player of the Week honor this season after being named Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 11 alongside Danilo da Silva of Lincoln Memorial.
Carson-Newman men's soccer players have now received back-to-back weekly accolades for the first time in program history.
"To be recognized that I've done something right is even better," Karlsen said. "You just get more motivation to keep on going. I just appreciate it."
The Kongsvinger, Norway native had an astounding week scoring five goals on 12 shots, two of those goals were game-winners. He had a hat trick that scored all of C-N's goals on Oct. 4 in a 3-0 over Lincoln Memorial including a goal off of a penalty kick in the 84th minute of play.
"As a striker, to score a hat trick is the best thing that you can do, basically," Karlsen noted. "You get three in a match twice in a season, that's just funny. It's hard to describe it."
The sophomore has scored at least one goal in six of the Eagles' 11 games this season. He has gotten the team on the board first five times in 2017 while scoring goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation in wins against LMU and Catawba this week.
Karlsen leads the team and conference in points (23) and goals (11). His five game-winning goals are a team-best.
"We have such a good group and a lot of the goals I have, it's not just me, it's a team effort. I'm just the one that's finishing them," the sophomore mentioned.
Carson-Newman rides into Young Harris, N.C. on a seven-game winning streak for a midweek matchup with the Mountain Lions.
