Men's Golf back on the course for the Currahee Invitational
Carson-Newman men’s golf returns to the course for the Currahee Collegiate Invitational, Monday, and Tuesday at the Currahee Club in Toccoa, Ga.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's golf returns to the course for the Currahee Collegiate Invitational, Monday, and Tuesday at the Currahee Club in Toccoa, Ga.
The hosts of the first ever Currahee Invitational are Anderson and Erksine. Nearly every team in the 15-team field is receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Eight of the top ten teams in the nation will tee off in Toccoa, tomorrow morning.
The 54-hole, two-day event will feature a par-72, 7,513-yard layout, with 36 holes on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
Currahee Golf Club is a Jim Fazio-designed golf course, Currahee Golf Club has been named as one of the "Top 100 Residential Courses in America" by Golfweek in six of the last seven years and was tabbed "Golf Club of the Year" in 2018 by Lux Life Magazine. In 2015, the National Golf Course Owners Association named Currahee the No. 1 Golf Club in Georgia and among the top-4 in the USA.
The Eagles began the fall season with a 4th place finish at the Cougar Invitational. In the second tournament of the fall, C-N finished 7th at the Queens Invitational.
Playing for the Eagles will be sophomore Elliot MacGregor, junior Luke Stock, graduate student Hayden Hunneke, graduate student Jake Mynatt and junior Steven Haremski.
MacGregor has the lowest scoring average through the first six rounds of the year at 72.7. His low round of 70 came in the final round of the Cougar Invitational. His best finish this season was tied for 6th at the Cougar Invitational.
Stock's scoring average is 72.8, 0.1 shy of tying MacGregor for the lowest on the team. The Oxted, England native has one of the lowest rounds of the season for C-N. He fired a 5-under 67 at the Queens Invitational.
Hunneke also has a low round of 67 this season, with his coming at the Cougar Invitational. He sports a 73.5 scoring average through the first two tournaments this fall.
Mynatt has a scoring average of 74.5 in his first six rounds of 2022. He is looking to build off of his low round of the year, after firing a 68 in the final round of the Queens Invitational.
Haremski will participate in his first tournament with C-N. He transferred to the Eagles after three seasons with Middle Tennessee State. His freshman season, he played in three of the five tournaments and had a 75.0 scoring average. His best finish was a tie for 33rd at the Little Rock Invitational, with an 8-over par 224 (73-72-79). The junior from Knoxville attended Faragut High school.
