Wise named to Fred Mitchell Award Watch List

CHICAGO – Carson-Newman sophomore placekicker Carson Wise (Blacksburg, Va.) has been named to the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List.

The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award (also known as the Fred Mitchell Award) is provided to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams.

The Award is named for Fred Mitchell, the record-setting place-kicker, Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Famer, author, philanthropist and Chicago Tribune sports columnist.

The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be chosen based on excellence on the football field and in the community.

Wise spent his summer as one of 11 current and former NCAA athletes who spent 12 days in Bradenton, Fla. at the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace's International Sport and Social Impact Summit.

On the field,  Wise has moved into sixth place in C-N football history for field goals made (17) and points by a kicker (136).

This season, he has hit four of his seven field goals taken and 21 of his 22 extra points.  He drilled a 41-yarder, one yard shy of matching his collegiate career high, against Humboldt State.

Wise and the rest of the Eagles will be in action this weekend against Lenoir-Rhyne.  Kickoff with the Bears is set for 1 p.m.  Coverage of the game begins at noon with the AEC Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
