JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Quarterback Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.)
completed five passes for 123 yards to wide receiver Reggie Hubbard
(Chattanooga, Tenn.) to highlight Carson-Newman's second scrimmage
of the fall on Saturday afternoon in Burke-Tarr Stadium.
The two hooked up twice on their final series of the day, a
two-minute drill in which Hubbard had catches of 15 and 50 yards.
The Chattanooga native won a mid-air battle with two defensive
backs to pull in the 50-yarder.
"Those two (Good and Hubbard) are on the same page, but we're not
maxing out," Eagle head coach Ken Sparks said. "Alex (Good) missed
Reggie (Hubbard) once for a touchdown, and had Buck (Wakefield)
another time. We need to score every chance we get."
Sparks was quick not let a couple of incompletions overshadow the
body of work he's received from his senior quarterback.
"Alex and this entire senior class have been incredible," Sparks
continued. "We have so many new faces that are going to play this
season, and that could have made this a very tough camp. But the
leadership and maturity these seniors have shown has really helped
us make a lot of progress."
Sparks also praised his defensive front-seven, who didn't allow a
touchdown against the second-string offense in the controlled
scrimmage.
"We have three or four senior linebackers that are really playing
well," Sparks added of his veteran front. "Strick (Donte
Strickland) is flying all over the place out there, and Brandon
Harmon is playing really sound football. He's four months out of
knee surgery, it's a miracle that he's out there, much less playing
at an unbelievable level."Carson-Newman will hold its final
scrimmage of the fall on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. in
Burke-Tarr Stadium.
