one player selected at two different positions, league officials
announced this week.
Eagles quarterback Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.), running back Buck
Wakefield (Drummonds, Tenn.), wide receiver Reggie Hubbard
(Chattanooga, Tenn.) and offensive lineman Ross Shaffer
(Hendersonville, N.C.) received first team honors on offense, while
defensive lineman Brandon Harmon (Houston, Texas), linebacker Brian
Brown (Hartwell, Ga.) and defensive back Mario Russell (Columbus,
Ohio) were first team selections on defense.
Running back Ricky Harris (Perry, Ga.), defensive back Denares
Waites (Alma, Ga.) and punter Chris Jones (Rome, Ga.) garnered
second team honors. Hubbard was also named to the second team as a
return specialist.
Good, a second team All-SAC selection in 2008, threw for 1,349
yards and 13 touchdowns last season and was also a force on the
ground as he rushed for 918 yards and 12 scores.
Wakefield was third in the conference in rushing a year ago with
944 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning him first team All-SAC and
first team Daktronics All-Region honors.
Hubbard, who earned first team All-SAC honors last season,
compiled a team-high 416 receiving yards and seven touchdowns,
which was fourth in the conference. He also racked up 149 yards and
one touchdown on punt returns and 450 yards on kickoff returns.
Shaffer will be a valuable asset to the Eagles offense line and is
expected to start at tackle.
Harmon played a key role on C-N's defensive line last season as he
tallied 36 tackles and one sack, earning him second team All-SAC
honors.
Brown, a first team All-SAC performer last season, tied for the
team lead in tackles (56) and sacks (four) and led the team in
tackles for loss with 11.
Russell tied with Brown for the team lead in tackles in 2008 with
56 and recorded two interceptions, including one returned for a
touchdown, to garner first team All-SAC honors.
Harris was third on the team in rushing last season with 310 yards
and two touchdowns,
Waites, who missed most of last season with an injury, will
provide the Eagles with valuable experience at safety. Waites was a
first team All-SAC selection in 2007 after tallying 39 tackles and
one interception.
Jones was fourth in the conference in punting last season with a
38.5 yards per punt average. He also landed 17 of his 41 punts
