Griffin booked for speaking engagements
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the Carson-Newman baseball season right around the corner, coach Tom Griffin is slated to speak at three different conventions starting in December and ending in January sharing his knowledge of the game and expertise in being a catcher.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the Carson-Newman baseball season right around the corner, coach Tom Griffin is slated to speak at three different conventions starting in December and ending in January sharing his knowledge of the game and expertise in being a catcher.
For the eighth straight year, the veteran skipper will start his coaching conversations with Catcher Con later this week in Nashville from Dec. 2-4. He is slated to open the festivities on Saturday at 8 a.m. with a list of coaches from SEC schools to Major League Baseball. Mike Bianco, the coach of the 2022 National Champion Ole Miss Rebels, is slated to follow him.
After the New Year, Griffin will speak on Friday, Jan. 6 at 3:20 p.m. at the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention, an expansive four-day event for leaders around the nation. Among other speakers, there will be several coaches from Power Five programs, Minor League Baseball and the Big Leagues.
Wrapping up his time on the speaking circuit, the mentor will speak at the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Convention on Jan. 21 in Franklin, Tenn. The two-day event features an awards banquet and speakers.
After concluding his 17th season at Mossy Creek, Griffin has won 476 games for the Eagles and north of 660 as a college head coach. In 2022, the club won at least 25 games for the seventh straight full season of baseball. He has coached five MLB draft picks in his time and 22 total professional players highlighted by current Washington National and USA Baseball alumnus Steve Cishek, who represented the country in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Over the last two seasons, Griffin has coached in a partnership between Major League Baseball and USA Baseball for the 2022 Prospect Development Pipeline League some of the young talent in the country preparing players for the MLB Draft with former MLB players and coaches.
Griffin is considered one of the premier catching minds in the game authoring an instructional catching baseball video, "Catch It, Block It, Throw It" that was updated in 2019. It can be found on his website, catchblockthrowit.com. A regular instructional speaker at various coaching clinics and camps, he has been the featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association on several locations over the last decade and a half.
