Eagles Fly High at App State Open

BOONE, N.C. – Carson-Newman Track and Field had big showings at the 2025 App State Open.
Multiple Carson-Newman athletes placed highly and set new PRs at the App State Open in Boone over the weekend.
In the field events, the Eagles showed up and showed out in the women's high jump with Kendall Whitehead placing first in the event, clearing a height of 1.56m, and teammate Kellie Ivens placing second, clearing 1.46m on the J-approach.
The Eagles swept the high jump events with Oluwafemi Richards winning in the men's side, clearing a height of 1.97 meters using the J-approach.
Sydney McCarty took home gold for Carson-Newman in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.08m. Brooke Visser and Eliza Collins placed in the top ten behind McCarty in the event in fifth and ninth, respectively.
Oluwatimi Williams continued to be one of the best throwers in the SAC, placing second in the men's shot put with a distance of 16 meters flat. Lizzy Hall placed fifth in the women's side with a distance achieved of 10.23m.
Williams also placed second in the discus throw event with a distance achieved of 52.23m, the top mark for an attached athlete.
Tylee Hefney tied for second in the women's pole vault as the only vaulter in the top ten using the J-approach, clearing a height of 3.17m.
Brooke Taylor, Kendall Whitehead, and Brooke Visser all placed in the top ten in the women's triple jump, placing third, fifth, and seventh, respectively. Carlos Kouassi placed fourth on the men's side with a distance of 14.31m
Ian Salyer placed fifth in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 45.53m.
Keaton Gramann placed ninth in the men's long jump, clearing a distance of 6.44m.
In the track events, Carson-Newman's men's 4x100m relay placed second, just behind the team from the hosts, Appalachian State, with a time of 40.76
Colten Lee continued his impressive season, winning the men's mile event with a time of 4:16.15, defeating the second-place finisher from Lincoln Memorial by less than a second. Hunter Henry placed tenth in the event. Jenna Pittman placed fourth in the women's mile with a time of 5:14.71.
Favour Ekpekpe stood atop the podium in the men's 200m event with a time of 21.04, defeating the event's runner-up, Ray Lee of App State, by 0.01 seconds.
Sade De Sousa placed fourth in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.28 while the Eagles had two men qualify for the six-man 100m final with Amine Kasmi placing second with a time of 10.67 in the finals heat, Christian Langlois qualified for the final but did not legally cross the finish line.
Both Trishanie Warner and Tytiana Wilson placed top ten in the women's 400m with Warner placing on the podium with a third-place time of 57.23, while Wilson placed sixth.
Rylan Jordan and Taylor Dupler placed two-three on the podium for the men's 400m dash with times of 47.93 and 49.48, respectively.
Noah Ricketts earned a tenth-place finish, completing his 400m hurdles in one minute flat.
In the final event of the App State Open, the men's 4x400m relay team placed first as the team of Jordan, Dupler, Blaylock, and Ekpekpe finished in a time of 3:18.69.
Carson-Newman Track and Field is next scheduled to compete on April 26 at the Blue & Gold Track Classic hosted by Emory & Henry at the Food City Sports Complex in Emory, Va.
