Lady Eagles Fall To Tusculum, 3-1

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman won game two to even their South Atlantic Conference match with Tusculum College, but the Lady Pioneers claimed the final two games for a 3-1 win over the Lady Eagles Tuesday night at Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers (10-7, 2-1 SAC) won the match by scores of 30-27, 23-30, 30-20, 30-21.
Carson-Newman (13-2, 0-2 SAC) was led on defense by the duo of Kelli Sorensen and Salem Stepp, posting 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Allyson Corhn added 16 assists, while Stephanie Cutter tallied 15 assists and eight digs in the loss. Nikki James came out with 6 blocks for the Eagles. Eagle offense was led by Katie Troyer with 9 kills.
"Our conference has alot of tough teams. Winning on the road against Tusculum presented a challenge as there is alot of rivalry between our schools. We really came out strong in the first two games. Katie and Carly both got kills for us early. Kelli had a bigger block on her throughout the match so she had to be smarter about her shot selection. I don't think we used Fleck as we should have. She is a great hitter and is hard to defend being a lefty. We have to work her into our offense to be more effective in our conference." says Coach Mincey
Carson-Newman will seek their first SAC win of the 2007 season at Newberry College this Saturday for a league tilt beginning at 1 p.m.
