The Eagles are off to a 3-0 overall start for the third time in the last decade doing so in 2014 and 2018 while tallying three wins without a loss in SAC action for the first time since 2015 when the unit opened the year 4-0. To find the last time the program opened a year 4-0 overall, you have to go back to the 2010 campaign when the Eagles rattled off five victories in a row before a setback.
In 2019, the Orange and Blue were 14-6 away from Holt Fieldhouse cranking out over a dozen kills per set and nearly a .200 hitting clip with a blocks per set average of 2.73 closing the year with wins victories in 10 of their final 12 trips of the year.
Carson-Newman (3-0, 3-0) has only played UVA Wise (0-3, 0-3) one time sweeping the Cavaliers in the 2019 SAC opener at Holt Fieldhouse on Sept. 13, 2019 as seven different players notched at least three kills paving the way to a .239 hitting clip.
Erin Edwards (Midlothian, Va.) paced the Eagles attack with nine kills on a .350 hitting percentage while Marnie Streeter needed just two sets to pound eight kills on a .280 clip adding five digs and a block. Madison Rademacher (Broomfield, Colo.) handed out 11 assists and Morgan Ballard picked up 17 digs.
Ciara Kain led the offense for the visitors with eight kills but made six attack miscues adding nine digs. Matelyn Gibson chipped in seven and nine respectively in the same areas. Morgan Milligan led all players with 24 digs and Ledford paced all athletes with 23 assists.
Wise has opened the year with three straight-set losses to Queens, Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne failing to score more than 19 points in any set this year including a seven-point second stanza versus Queens. Of the nine sets played, the team has hit below .100 four times including hitting negative thrice. The one outlier is a .308 mark in a 25-17 second-set loss to Mars Hill.
Conversely, teams are blistering the ball with four sets of .300 hitting or better and each of the nine producing a .200 hitting clip or better. Queens throttled the ball at a .579 margin in the second-set 25-7 victory tallying a dozen kills on 19 swings.
Dating back to 2019, the Cavaliers have lost 29 matches in a row since beating Fayetteville State in the 2019 season opener on Sept. 8, a span of 549 days. It is the second-longest current streak in Division II behind the 36-game skid for Dominican (NY).
Overall the team is average 7.11 kills per set and hitting .053 with Kelsey Green leading the team with 18 kills on the year and a .062 hitting percentage. She had nine smashes on March at Mars Hill hitting at a .238 rate.
