JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - With a new season on the horizon, the Carson-Newman volleyball has added depth that was on display in Thursday's Orange/Blue scrimmage.
The Orange squad won three sets to the Blue team's two.
C-N head volleyball coach Shannon Mincey said the scrimmage proved to be a test not only for the team, but also individually for the players.
"We are blessed to be able to have the depth on the squad this year as opposed to last year when my starters were all on one side of the net," Mincey said.
Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) led the Blue team with four digs per set. "One of our
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the top attacker for the scrimmage, garnering 11 kills in the final three sets. Harper said she was not always going for the finishing blow.
"Sometimes (when I attack) it's to get a kill, but others it's to keep the ball in play and let my other teammates get a kill because they are very strong hitters."
Carson-Newman opens the season September 7 against Francis Marion as a part of the Carson-Newman Classic.
