Lady Eagles outlast Mars Hill, 3-2
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Carson-Newman volleyball team held off Mars Hill in five games inside Stanford Arena. The Lady Eagles won by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-9 to improve to 10-3 overall, 4-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lions fall to 5-6 overall, 2-6 in the league.

Carly
Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) posted a double-double with 24 kills
and 12 digs for Carson-Newman. Lara
McDonald (Salem, Va.), with 29 assists and 15 digs, and Courtney
Lawson (Chattanooga, Tenn.), who had 19 assists and 15 digs,
also had double-doubles.
Nikki
James (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Rachael
Bowlin (Morristown, Tenn.) each had 11 kills. Bowlin was the
third Lady Eagle to post a double-double as she also had 15 digs.
Angelle
Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.) recorded 29 digs.
Marissa Wixson (Spring, Texas) poured in a double-double for Mars
Hill with 17 kills and 27 digs. Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.),
Laura Ann Huskey (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Jenna Luke (Mishawaka,
Ind.) recorded 17, 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Maggie Murphy (Richmond, Va.) pumped in 28 digs for the Lions.
Kelsi Flora (Mishawaka, Ind.) followed up with 13 digs. Becca Smith
(Candler, N.C.) chipped in 28 assists.
Carson-Newman
registered seven service aces compared to none for Mars
Hill.
Carson-Newman will host Brevard and Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic
Conference action this weekend. The Brevard match is at 5 p.m. on
Friday evening and the LRU match is Saturdat at 2 p.m. Mars Hill
will travel to Anderson on Friday. The match will start at 7
p.m.
