Eagles aim to extend winning streak against the Wasps

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman (3-2-2, 2-1) visits new South Atlantic Conference member Emory & Henry (2-4, 0-3) for the first time Wednesday evening in Emory, Va.
A win for C-N would mark the eighth consecutive year with a three-game winning streak. Every year under Coach Simon Duffy, the Eagles have won at least three consecutive matches.
The Eagles are coming off one of their better performances of the season, a 3-1 win over a previously unbeaten Wingate team. Freshman Selina Jud and sophomore Sydnee Duncan each scored first-half goals in the match. Duncan added another in the 67th minute to help propel C-N to the win. Following her two-goal performance, Duncan was named SAC offensive player of the week.
Freshman goalkeeper Laura Germes recorded five saves in the win and has 16 total for the season. Following two wins and a clean sheet last week, she received SAC weekly honors earning defensive player of the week.
Three different Eagles are tied for the team lead with two goals. Eight different players have assisted on a goal this season. Senior Addie Henry leads the team in shots attempted with 17.
C-N ranks 3rd in the conference in shots per game and corner kicks. It ranks 4th in goals per game and assists.
Carson-Newman is in a three-way tie for third place in the SAC standings with six points.
Emory & Henry enters the match 2-4 and winless in SAC play. Two of the three losses were to ranked teams at the time, No.10 Catawba and No.21 Wingate. The Wasps have been outscored 12-0 in the three conference matches.
Junior Maddie Hummel leads the team with two goals scored, while three others have scored once.
Senior goalkeeper Natalie Capone has started all six matches in goal. She leads the SAC with 49 saves.
Under Duffy, C-N is 19-5-2 on the road against the SAC.
