Kansas City, MO.— The Carson-Newman women's soccer program has earned the College Team Academic Award for the fourth straight year following the United Soccer Coaches announcement on Thursday afternoon.
A total of 889 soccer teams (333 men, 556 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 academic year.
One of the 556 women's teams was Carson-Newman, posting a team grade point average, GPA, of 3.54. This is the fourth straight year under Coach Duffy that the Eagles have been recognized.
Carson-Newman was recognized alongside fellow South Atlantic Conference women's teams of Anderson, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Queens, and Wingate.
"We set standards for the team on and off the field, and having the team achieve such an award like this for not only one but four straight years is a glimpse of what we strive for at Mossy Creek," said Duffy. "I think this is the highest team GPA since I have been here and to have it come with all this year's challenges makes me proud of our team and staff."
This award comes after the Carson-Newman women's soccer program took home top honors as the recipients of the Carson-Newman Director's Cup. The Director's Cup is presented to the top academic team on campus which best represents the values espoused by the Eagle Scholar Program as selected by the Eagle Scholar Committee. Previous winners include women's basketball (2015), baseball (2016), softball (2017), swimming (2018) and volleyball (2019).
