Cummins, Haughton inside the top-10 after day one at the Low Tide Intercollegiate

After two rounds, the Eagles sit in sixth at 41-over par with a total score of 617. Carson-Newman improved their standing by two spots after shooting 29-over in the first round and sitting at eighth place overall.
As a team, Carson-Newman finished with the best score on par threes, finishing at two-over with an average score of 3.05. The Eagles also finished tied with UNC-Pembroke for the fifth best score on par fives, finishing nine-over with an average score of 5.23. Carson-Newman finished behind Limestone with the second-most pars in the two rounds with 106.
"The girls got off to a rough start in the first 18, but fought really hard in the second 18 to finish at 302," says Associate Head Women's Golf Coach Kelsey Hutson. "This group will be able to build off the second round tomorrow in the final round. Maeve's 72 in the second round really helped our team move up today."
Individually, the Eagles are lead by Maeve Cummins who sits tied for fourth with a four-over 148. Cummins finished the first round four-over 76 before recovering in the second round with an even-par score of 72. The Northern Ireland native along with her teammate Aynsleigh Martin finished the first day with a perfect 3.00 score on par threes. Cummins also finished the first day tied for the most pars in the first round with 28. Cummins even-par round two is the sixth even-par round for Carson-Newman this season.
Ellie Haughton finished day one with a top-10 finish, sitting tied for ninth at seven-over with a total score of 151. Haughton finished the first round with a four-over 76 before shooting a three-over 75 in round two. The England native excelled on par threes on opening day, finishing with the second-best score on the shortest holes, recording a score of one-under with an average score of 2.88. Haughton also recorded the second most pars with 26 over two rounds.
Hannah Holland sits tied for 35th after shooting a 15-over 159 in two rounds. After shooting a nine-over 81 in the first round, the Sale Creek, Tenn. native rebounded with a six-over 78 in the second round.
Caroline Nemes is tied for 42nd after shooting a 17-over 161 over the two rounds. For the second straight event, Nemes showed improvement between rounds one and two, going from an 11-over 83 in round one to a six-over 78 in round two.
Martin is tied for 52nd at 20-over with a score of 164. Martin shot a 15-over 87 in the first round but recovered by ten strokes with a five-over 77 in round two. Martin finished tied for the fourth most birdies in the two rounds with five.
As an individual competitor, Ashley Holland sits tied with Martin at 52nd, also at 20-over. She also improved between rounds, recording a second-round six-over 78 after shooting a 14-over 86 in the first round.
Limestone sits at first overall as a team at a 12-over 588. Megan Robb from Lenoir-Rhyne sits in first individually at three-under.
