Season finale brings shutout loss for C-N

OWINGS MILLS, MD – The end of the beach volleyball season came on a sour note as Carson-Newman fell to Stevenson 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles (0-15) now stand at a 3-2 deficit in the all-time series with Stevenson (17-6), losing back-to-back matches to the Mustangs. for the second-straight time in program history. Sunday's loss pushes C-N to the longest losing streak and the first winless season in program history.
The day debuted with an appearance by Gabrielle Bailey (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and Lauren Williams (Carrolton, Ga.) at the No. 5 position. The duo lost the first set 21-13 to Emily Castro and Lizi Cudal but battled for a second set win 21-17, forcing a tie-breaking third set. This Eagle-Mustang match-up was the only one of the weekend to be taken to three sets with Bailey and Williams unable to maintain their adrenaline in a 15-4 loss.
At the No. 4 spot sat Morgan Harlan (Ladara Ranch, Calif.) and Grace Seymour (Hudson, Fla.). The C-N tandem lost their first set 21-10. They scored more points on the second set but it was not enough to defeat Julie Nightwine and Victoria Prokic, losing 21-14.
Micah Depetro (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Abby Struewing (Lebanon, Ohio) competed at the No. 3 spot where they were demolished 21-5 in the first set and handed over the match to Darian Hileman and Jessi Freeman in the second set 21-10. This match resulted in the outright 3-0 win in favor of the Mustangs.
Lauren Weaver and Katie Leftridge conquered Aryana Fazelnia (Weston, Fla.) and Montgomery Sauter (Columbia S.C.) in straight sets at the No. 2 seed, 21-12 and 21-16.
Kelly Hughes (Woodbridge, Va.) and Summer Coulter (El Paso, Texas) lost to Annika Schwartz and Trang Chirstensen at the No. 1 position. The Eagles pairing lost the first set 21-13, setting them up to attempt a comeback but lost 21-17 in the final set of the day.
