Mincey names former C-N standout Ashley Tipton assistant women’s basketball coach

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman standout Ashley Tipton has been named assistant women’s basketball coach, head coach Mike Mincey announced Tuesday. Tipton joins Mincey’s first-year staff. He was named the fourth head coach in the program’s history in April, and coached Tipton in her final season at C-N in 2008-09.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman College has named Mike Mincey the head women’s basketball coach, athletic director David Barger announced on Friday at a press conference on the Carson-Newman campus. Mincey becomes the fourth head coach in Lady Eagle history.

HICKORY, N.C. – Sixth-seeded Carson-Newman saw its season ended at the hands of second-seeded Wingate by a 69-57 score Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The contest was played at Catawba Valley Community College's Multipurpose Center.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Carson-Newman women's basketball team had three players earn All-South Atlantic Conference honors, league officials announced Friday. Senior guard Mandy Mendenhall (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) was named to the first team, while junior forward Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) garnered second team honors and freshman forward Shannon Depew (Newport, Tenn.) was named Freshman of the Year and made the All-Freshman team.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College women’s basketball team enters Wednesday’s 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament as one of the hotter teams in the league. The Lady Eagles are on a two-game win streak and have won seven out of their last 10 games The sixth-seeded C-N women travel to Hickory, N.C. hopefully to stay Wednesday when they face off against SAC No. 3 seed Lenoir-Rhyne. The Lady Eagles (13-15, 9-9 SAC) and Lady Bears (14-12, 11-7 SAC) split games this season.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — For the fifth straight game junior forward Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) owned the paint for the Carson-Newman College women’s basketball team. Williams recorded her fifth consecutive double-double in an 85-78 win over Mars Hill Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The win stops a 2-game skid for the Lady Eagles. Carson-Newman is 11-14 on the season and 7-8 in the South Atlantic Conference. The loss puts Mars Hill at 15-8 and 8-7 in the SAC.
