JEFFERSON CITY, tenn – The Carson-Newman Eagles posted shutout of visiting Brevard College, 2-0, on Saturday evening at McCowan Field.
With the win Carson-Newman improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. Brevard falls to 0-4 and 0-1 in SAC play.
The win is the first SAC win for C-N first-year coach Richard Moodie.
Carson-Newman struck twice in the first half to seize control of the match. Sophomore Tyson Atkinson's (Nashville, TN) header off a cross from Senior Matt Crain (Morristown, TN) gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Senior striker Robbie Hill (Middlesboro, England) was the beneficiary of a Joao Pedro Dowlsey feed for a one-timer, which Hill hammered home to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute.
Senior keeper Mikey Alley (Kingsport, TN) shutout the Tornadoes, finishing the match with five saves. The Eagles outshot Brevard 15 to 13.
Brevard's Alec Darcey led the Tornadoes with four shots.
Carson-Newman returns to action next Saturday in Anderson, S.C. against Anderson University. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
