Two Eagles Named To NSCAA All-Southeast Region Mens Soccer Teams
WINGATE, N.C. The Carson-Newman mens soccer team is represented twice on the NSCAA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Team, region officials announced today. The NSCAA is the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Senior forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.) and junior defender Matt Finlay (Liverpool, ENGLAND) were named to the region first and third teams, respectively.

men’s soccer team is represented twice on the NSCAA NCAA
Division II All-Southeast Region Team, region officials announced
today. The NSCAA is the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America. Senior forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.)
and junior defender Matt Finlay (Liverpool,
ENGLAND) were named to the region first and third teams,
respectively.
Cooke, a 2009 All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team and
Daktronics All-Southeast Region Second-Team honoree, led the team
with six assists and four match-winners and was second in goals
scored (11) and total points (28). He was also selected to the 2009
Food Lion SAC Tournament All-Tournament team. Cooke completes his
career at C-N with 32 goals scored, good for fourth all-time in C-N
history and 78 total points which is fifth in school history.
Finlay is also a 2009 All-SAC First-Teamer and was named to the
Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team. He anchored a back line
that allowed just 23 goals in 20 matches (1.13/match) and also
aided the Eagles offensively with three goals and three assists for
nine total points.
The Eagles finished 14-5-1 on the season and won the 2009 South
Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title. They reached the NCAA
Division II Tournament for the seventh straight year and advanced
to the Southeast Region semifinals.
The NSCAA All-Region teams are voted on by the head coaches of each
of the respective regions in Division II.
