MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- The Carson-Newman men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2009 season by shutting out Chowan, 5-0, on Friday night.

up its first win of the 2009 season by shutting out Chowan, 5-0, on
Friday night.
The Eagles outshot the Hawks 37-3 and used four second-half goals
to pull away for the victory.
With the win, C-N improves to 1-1 on the season, while Chowan falls
to 0-1.
The Eagles struck first in the match, as Daniel Zitt (Morristown,
Tenn.) split two Chowan defenders and found the back of the net to
give C-N a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
C-N didn't score again until early in the second half. Senior
forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.) tallied a goal in the 58th minute
to push the Eagles' lead to 2-0.
Cooke and Richard Marquetty (New York, N.Y.) then put the game out
of reach by each scoring a goal in the 63rd minute to give C-N a
4-0 cushion.
James London (Jacksonville, Fla.) beat a defender in the 89th
minute to score the final goal of the night for the Eagles.
Everardo Flores (Silver Spring, Md.), Matthew Finlay (Liverpool,
England) and Marquetty each had an assist for C-N in the win.
The Eagles return to action on Sept. 6 in its home opener against
Belmont Abbey. The match is set to start at 3 p.m.
