CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – The past month has proven to bring solid play for a pair of Carson-Newman men's golfers with Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Alex Hodge (Knoxville, Tenn.) both picking up wins in local events.
For both C-N golfers, the events they picked up wins in featured numerous Division I players as well as some of their fellow Eagles.
Mynatt started the winning month with a share of the title with Cooper Collins of Morehead State at the Holston Hills Invitational on October 13 at the Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville. The junior went eight-under in two rounds of play with a 136 total. He opened the week with a strong 65 in the first round, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 18. Through both rounds, he tallied nine birdies with just a trio of bogeys.
Hodge picked up a victory on Sunday at the Tennessee Golf Association Collegiate Shootout at the Tennessee Golf Trail at Henry Horton, shooting a 16-under three-round total of 200. The senior distanced himself from the rest of the field by four shots with runner-up Alex Cobb of UT-Chattanooga carding a 204. Hodge fired a 66 in both of his opening day rounds, seeing just one bogey in that span with 13 birdies. He closed the week with a 68, tying for the second-lowest score on the day.
Both Eagles started in a majority of C-N events in the 2019-20 campaign; Mynatt started in all seven tournaments for the Orange and Blue while Hodge made five starting appearances.
Mynatt sits at fifth in program history for career scoring average with a 74.18 in his first two seasons. Hodge made a splash on the team's single-season record list in his debut year with a 72.7 average that was good enough for sixth.
