JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Cross Country starts off the 2024-25 season this Friday, Sep. 6 at the LMU Railsplitters Open in Ewing, Va.
"We're looking to have a solid season opener," said Borden. "We've focused on preparing and building and establishing a base for the season. We want to be competitive and set a standard for the rest of the season."
The Eagles return top runners Colten Lee and Bryson Burkett for the men and Jenna Pittman and Peyton Couch for the women.
Junior, Andrew Thompson, looks to make a statement at the season opening meet at LMU.
"I want to see a good effort," said Thompson. "We want to continue to progress as we get further into the season."
With the cross country team running in six meets this season, this is the first of three new courses that the Eagles will run this year. Peyton Couch hopes to rely on her experience going into an unfamiliar course.
"It's a 4K race and I am familiar with how to approach the race," said Couch. "I hope to see good results with it being the first meet of the season."
Five newcomers join the team including freshman Andrew Zona and Junior Anna Richason.
Richason was a multiple sport athlete in high school, but recently joined the Eagles Cross Country team this season.
"It's been a few years, but I'm excited and I'm going to try and push through," said Richason. "It'll be good to see what I do right and what I do wrong so I can see what's most important going into future meets."
