Carson-Newman sophomore Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.) spent part of her winter giving back to the community as a basketball coach in the Upward organization of Jefferson County. James, a standout volleyball player for the Lady Eagles and a business administration major at C-N, showed her love for teaching and sports by taking on a team of eight first through third-grade girls named the Sparks.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. Carson-Newman volleyball has signed one recruit during the early signing period. Lindsey Bryant will don the orange and blue of the Lady Eagles next fall, Head Volleyball Coach Shannon Miney announced today.
LEXINGTON, Ky. Carson-Newman senior setter Stephanie Cutter was selected as an honorable mention All-Southeast Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) after a strong senior season. The senior capped off an impressive career, leading the Lady Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Division II tournament win on Nov. 19 over Catawba, and a 23-10 overall record with a 12-4 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.
WINGATE, N.C. Carson-Newman saw two of its players named to the All-Southeast Region Tournament Team after advancing to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Tournament. INDIANAPOLIS The Carson-Newman College Volleyball Team (22-9) has received the fourth seed for the 2009 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament, NCAA officials announced Sunday night. The Lady Eagles will take on the Lady Catawba Indians of Catawba College on Friday in the region quarterfinal match. The eight-team tournament will take place on the campus of Wingate University for the second straight year as the Bulldogs claimed the top seed.

The Carson-Newman College Volleyball Team (20-8, 11-4 SAC) secured second place in the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season as it defeated Catawba College (16-10, 9-7 SAC) by a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 29-27) score Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gymnasium. The Lady Eagles also achieved their fourth 20-win season under the tutelage of sixth-year Head Coach Shannon Mincey and their seventh since 2001.

The Wingate University Volleyball Team (30-1, 15-0 SAC) got all that it could handle from Carson-Newman College (19-8, 11-4 SAC) Friday night at Cuddy Arena, as the Bulldogs held on to defeat the Lady Eagles by a 3-2 (23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 17-15) score in South Atlantic Conference action. C-N came as close as anybody has to handing Wingate its first SAC loss since the 2006 season.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. The Carson-Newman College Volleyball will complete the 2009 South Atlantic Conference regular season this weekend as it travels to Wingate University and Catawba College. The Lady Eagles are looking to avenge losses from earlier this season to both teams.
