This morning the team went to down town Pula with our Croatian setter, Alex, as our guide. We visited the coliseum and the ancient Roman theatre. We went by Gilda's gate and attempted to go in the underground tunnels which happened to be closed. After sightseeing and picture taking we went shopping! Then headed back to the hotel to change into our swimsuits and eat lunch.
Next we loaded a private charter bus with three other teams and drove 45 minutes to the city of Rovinj. This amazing peninsula city was mostly built in the early 1700s, the stone streets, shops, fountains and cathedral were a pleasant surprise. The narrow alleys merged into small neighborhood market areas, consisting of cafes, shops, restaurants, and more!
We winded through the city, making our way through the cathedral, St. Eupharina Basilica, built it the early 1700s. Some of us climbed the narrow ancient staircase to see the magnificent view of the peninsula and took several pictures. Many of us shopped, others swam in the Adriatic Sea, and others continued sightseeing. We arrived back at our hotel around 5 to swim, take naps and eat dinner at 8.
