Carson-Newman Swimmers Travel to Pensacola
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men’s and women’s swimming teams will ring in the New Year in the pool by facing Queens (N.C.), Darton State, and West Florida (in women’s competition only) at the UWF Aquatic Center in Pensacola, Fla., on Thursday at 4 p.m.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men's and women's swimming teams will ring in the New Year in the pool by facing Queens (N.C.), Darton State, and West Florida (in women's competition only) at the UWF Aquatic Center in Pensacola, Fla., on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The women's meet will match Carson-Newman against Darton State, Queens, and host West Florida, while the men's competition will only be a tri-meet against Queens and Darton State.
The Eagles have performed well during the 2013 portion of the schedule, earning several national rankings.
In team relay races, Carson-Newman is ranked in the Division II Top Ten nationally, with the women in the 200-yard freestyle relay ranking 10th with a time of 1.37:01, and in the 800-yard freestyle relay the women are ninth in the nation with a time of 7:50.01. Also the Carson-Newman men's 400-yard freestyle relay is 10th in the nation with a time of 3:06.12.
Freshman Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) is 19th in the nation in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.13. Burnett is also sixth in the nation in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.8. Freshman Amanda Henderson (Bartlett, Tenn.) is 36th in the nation in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.00, and she is also 25th in the nation in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.20.
Junior Stephen Parsons (Auburn, Ala.) is 14th in the nation in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.69.
Carson-Newman last swam at Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C. from Nov. 22-23. In the women's team competition, Carson-Newman finished in sixth place with 489 points. The College of Charleston won the women's meet with 1492 points. In the men's team competition, Carson-Newman finished in ninth place with 475 points. Queens won the men's meet with 1443.5 points, edging out the College of Charleston 1443.5-1440.5.
Both the Queens men's and women's swimming teams are ranked second in the nation in the latest CSCAA poll. The West Florida women's team is ranked No. 18 in the latest CSCAA poll.
