Graves unveils 2020 softball slate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head softball coach Michael Graves has laid forth the Eagles’ 2020 softball schedule, he announced Sunday afternoon.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head softball coach Michael Graves has laid forth the Eagles' 2020 softball schedule, he announced Sunday afternoon.

"I thought last year we had a pretty tough schedule," Graves said. "We wanted to try to play some different teams while maintaining a strong strength of schedule. We wanted to mix it up while still testing ourselves to put us in position for regional play."

The Eagles will end up facing off against seven of the eight teams that made last year's NCAA Regional. Those include conference mates Wingate, Anderson, Lincoln Memorial and Coker, plus Conference Carolinas tournament titlist Lees-McRae and College World Series participant Young Harris.

Additionally the Eagles will take on Lee for the first time since 1994 and Goldey Beacom for the first time ever.

Carson-Newman opens the year Feb. 4 at Converse before hitting the road to Chattanooga to play in a tournament hosted by Lee on Feb. 8-9. The Eagles will play four games at the event, but don't yet have their opponents for the event.

The Eagles open the doors to the Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Softball Complex on Feb. 11 against NCAA tournament opponent Lees-McRae. The Eagles and Bobcats were supposed to square off last season, but the doubleheader was washed out on two separate occasions.

Valentine's weekend sends Carson-Newman to the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational. The Eagles will take on Young Harris, Erskine, King and Lander at the event.

C-N takes on Lee for the first time a quarter century on the road at Lee on Feb. 19. The Eagles lead the all-time series 10-2 with the Flames.

Carson-Newman plays six of its final eight games at home for the month of February. Limestone and Georgia College come to town for back-to-back doubleheaders Feb. 22-23 before the Eagles wrap up the month on leap day by opening conference play with Mars Hill. Those contests sandwich around a non-conference road twinbill at North Greenville.

Carson-Newman's final non-conference games come at King on March 10.

The Eagles will celebrate senior day on April 10 against Wingate.
