JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Following a successful stint of three seasons as an assistant coach for the Eagles, coach Julianne Herrity has left the nest to become the next head coach of Auburn University at Montgomery, announced today by the program.
"I can't thank my Carson-Newman family enough for the experiences I have had here, both as a player and as a coach," Herrity said. "I have been blessed to be a part of such a phenomenal program and institution. As a member of the coaching staff, I have been able to grow as a coach and as a person under the guidance of Simon Duffy, Allen Morgan, Matt Pope and the rest of the staff.
"I've also been fortunate to coach so many fantastic players and people over the last few years and I have no doubt the program will continue to excel."
Herrity, a native of Donegal, Ireland, was announced as an assistant coach for the program in the summer of 2017, helping C-N compile a 46-11-3 record over three seasons.
She made the transition from the pitch at McCown Field to the sidelines after playing two seasons for the Eagles. Across 42 games, the forward scored 34 goals including 11 game winners. She ranks in the top-5 across many statistical categories for an Eagle in their career including goals, shots attempted, points per game, and penalty kicks made.
As a senior, she compiled 43 points in 22 games, tallying 18 goals and adding seven helpers en-route to being named to the 2016 All-SAC first-team, NSCAA All-Southeast Region first-team, D2CCA All-Southeast first-team, and to the NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3.
As an assistant, her coaching was always her number one focus despite forged relationships with many players that remained on the squad.
"It's no coincidence that the success Carson-Newman has had over the last five, six years and Jules being here. It's no coincidence," head coach Simon Duffy said. "Whether she was a player and an All-American here or my assistant coach for the last three years. She's going to be sorely missed and was an amazing part of the staff here and, obviously, tremendously loved by players and staff.
"But, that sadness is nowhere compared how ecstatic I am to be moving on to become a head coach...I couldn't be more proud."
Herrity takes on an AUM team that finished 1-16-1 in the Gulf South in 2019, respectively.
Carson-Newman would like to thank coach Herrity for her tireless commitment to help further the program to new heights.
