ROCK HILL, S.C. – As 20th-ranked Carson-Newman continues to surge to start the year, sophomore Lindsey Taylor became the first Lady Eagle this season to earn South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors announced Monday.
In 2019-20, C-N players were responsible for five of the 16 but won four of the final eight led by four total from Kayla Marosites. It is the first weekly laurel of Taylor's career and it comes after a 3-0 week to push the Lady Eagles to 7-0.
The Maryville, Tenn. native posted averages of 18.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and one block per game shooting 67 percent from the floor and draining 14 of 21 foul shots. After shooting 24 percent at the line in the first three games of the year, she has converted at a 67 percent clip in four contests in 2021.
Taylor opened her week with 33 points and 10 rebounds in a 19-point road win at Mars Hill on Monday night. Taylor had scored 36 points this season before Monday night's outburst going 12-for-14 from the field and making nine of 13 foul shots to produce her second double-double of the season. It was the first 30/10 game by a C-N player since Kayla Marosites the second round of the 2018 NCAA Women's Basketball Championships against Lander on March 10, 2018.
On Wednesday night, Carson-Newman upended seventh-ranked Tusculum on the road in double overtime. While the post player only scored two points, she hauled in a career-high 14 rebounds.

The Orange and Blue closed out a strong week with its largest win of the year, a 26-point victory over Wingate. She led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds. It was her third double-double of the season as she went 9-for-10 from the field in 19 minutes of action.
Coach Mike Mincey's squad now have four players averaging in double figures on the year with the unit sitting at 83 points per game, good for 12th in the country and 0.3 points of league-leading UVA Wise.
"It really helps everyone out," Taylor said. "You have the guards that can score on the outside with Braelyn, Skylar and Byrd. Then you have the posts on the inside with me, Harli and Sydney and Bean and it really helps the chemistry and everyone can play more together."
Courtesy of a huge week, the sophomore now ranks fourth in the country in field-goal percentage making 67 percent from the floor. Her three double-doubles are fourth in the SAC and 25th nationally while her nine rebounds rank fifth in the conference.
Taylor leads the Lady Eagles into a stretch of four road games in seven days starting Wednesday night with the short journey to Lincoln Memorial for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. Air time is at 5:15 with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off" on the Eagle Sports Network locally on The Mountain 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and cneagles.com/live.
