JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Wednesday's South Atlantic Conference contest against Tusculum slated for 6 p.m. will be Carson-Newman's annual Play4Kay game to raise awareness for breast cancer.
"We want to do our part," Carson-Newman coach Mike Mincey said. "We have done a good job the last couple years of raising funds to battle this disease. We have had some parents step in to secure some donations. It's really important. Kay Yow was such a pioneer for women's basketball. We owe a lot to her."
The game is in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Play4Kay Initiative promoting Breast Cancer Awareness in honor former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow. T-shirts will be on sale for $15 at the door or through the women's basketball office with the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Foundation. Additional donations can be at the door or to Carson-Newman Women's Basketball during the month of February.
There will be plenty of opportunities for fans to get involved as Gloria Walker will be selling raffle tickets at the C-N cafeteria Tuesday and Wednesday for the opportunity to win one of two gift baskets.
The first option is a gift basket of the Oak Ridge Boys featuring an autographed hat and t-shirt. A compact disc from the band and artwork is also in the basket.
In the other gift basket, there are three gift cards - $25 to Salsarita's, $20 to Chick-Fil-A and $10 to AMC. There are two shirts, a heart pendant necklace, a ring a bracelet and a Pampered Chef cookbook as well.
The first 200 singles in attendance will get a single-serve can of Pringles courtesy of Pringles. While supplies last, students will be treated to a couple slices of pizza. Fans are encouraged to pack the house as the cheerleaders will be tossing out t-shirts during media timeouts.
Carson-Newman has won 18 straight games, the sixth-longest streak in the nation, and is hosting Tusculum for the 71st all-time meeting.
