2019-2020: Howell began his season at the Blue vs. Orange Championships in which he won two individual races, taking home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard IM at just 51.51 seconds, a program-record. Howell won the 200-yard IM at the King Invitational and won his first-ever Bluegrass Mountain Conference Male Swimmer of the Week Award as a result. In C-N's dual-meet against Wingate, Howell broke two pool records with first-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley with times of 2:04.62 and 4:05.95, respectively. He also took home first in the 200-yard IM. On the first day of the Emory Invitational, Howell won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:51:61, the best time of any swimmer in the nation at that point. On day two of the event, he won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.15. He also took second in the 400 yard individual medley at 4:03.84. His performance at the invitational earned him his second-career BMC Male Swimmer of the Week Award. In the Eagles' home opener, Howell won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:02.71 which was the fastest time of any swimmer in the nation at the time. During prelims of the opening day of the UT Invitational, Howell swam the 200-yard IM in 1:50.12 which was also the best mark in the country at the time. On the first day of the BMC Championships, Howell took home first place in the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:45.90, securing a gold medal and BMC conference champion honors. On the second day of conference championships, Howell took second in the men's 400-yard individual medley, tapping the wall at 3:53.51, his second medal of the championships. Howell earned an All-American honor by finishing eighth in the 'A' final of the 200-yard individual medley on the first day of National Championships.
2018-2019: Finished first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:52.19 vs. Wingate. The junior Howell collected his second event win on the evening beating out Wingate's Giacomo Viazzo by .09 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.14. The next day he grabbed top times in those extended distance events with a 2:05.25 time in the 200-yard breaststroke and 4:09.89 in the 400-yard individual medley again vs. Wingate... took home the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.88 at the Emory Invitational.Howell later followed up with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke receiving 13 points with a time of 57.87 seconds. The next day, Howell won the 200-yard breastroke with a time of 2:03.77, that time was fourth in all of DII.
Caleb Howell had a spectacular day for the Eagles winning two individual events back-to-back. The junior came in first in the Men's 200-Yard Freestyle and the 400-Yard IM with times of 1:43.00 and 4:14.48. Additionally, Howell anchored the win for the Men's 200-Yard Freestyle Relay just a few minutes later to close out the meet vs. Lees-McRae... At the UT Invitational, Howell took home the 13th spot in the 200-yard individual medley earning a new season-low time of 1:48.32 and sits atop the record book in the event with a program low time. In another program record-breaking performance, the men's 400 medley relay of Ungur, Howell, George and Chad Andoljsek in a time of 3:18.60. He also set a new school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.72... won the 200-yard breastroke and the 200-yard individual medley vs. Emmanuel... Finished first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:51.47, fourth all-time in school history... After grabbing the top time in the 200 IM in the morning swims, Caleb Howell turned in a third-place finish and an All-BMC swim at 1:48.54 to grab 16 points... Won the 400-yard IM, breaking his own school record at the BMC Championships.Howell added to his list of All-BMC swims with a third-place time in the 200-yard breaststroke at 1:59.52 for 16 team points.
2017-18: Earned trip to National Championships in both individual and relay events. The men's side of Jon Lancaster, Nikola Tadic, Caleb Howell & Marcelo Figueiredo broke a school record by a whole three seconds with a time of 6:36.82 but finished 11th overall and moved up to 26th in the national rankings. Cracked top-six times in the 400-yard individual medley. Howell's time of 3:57.52 came in as the third-best time during the preliminaries. Sophomore Caleb Howell led all Carson-Newman swimmers after placing 10th in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Collegiate Open Water Championship. 400 yard IM medley: finished 5th in the same event in the 'A' final with a school record time of 3:54 at Univ. of Tennessee Invitational. Howell's time ranks 4th in all of Division II. Claimed second-place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:06.12 at Nova Invitational. The time is good enough for the second-best time in the country in the IM event
