Baldock Signs With Vancouver Whitecaps

JEFFERSON CITY, TN-- Carson-Newman goalkeeper Tyler Baldock has signed a professional contract to play with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the United Soccer Leagues.
Baldock secured 10 shutouts and recorded 37 saves to help lead the Eagles to the 2006 regular season South Atlantic Conference title. He is the SAC's career leader in shutouts with 37 in his four-year career.The Eagles finished 15-2-2 this past season and advanced to the NCAA Appalachian Regional Tournament.
"I'm very excited to join the Vancouver Whitecaps," Baldock said."They have a rich history and won the USL championship last year, so we hope to have a productive year once again."
Baldock looks forward to learning the professional game from Whitecaps keeper Tony Caig, a former Newcastle United player. He will also have the opportunity to play against international superstar David Beckham when the Whitecaps host the Los Angeles Galaxy in October.
"It's a great game for not only the club, but for the city," he said. "Vancouver is a great soccer city, and we hope to build up the sport within the community."
