GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second time in his career, Thaylan Silva was named to the CoSIDA Academic-All District team on Thursday, Nov. 11.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Carson-Newman has been represented on the list. It is the fourth national academic award that Silva has received, being named a Scholar All-South First Team selection by the United Soccer Coaches in 2019 and being named Academic All-District after the 2021 spring season. Silva earned Academic All-American honors last season as well from CoSIDA.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Silva was one of the 12 players chosen from district three which includes the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference. Of those 12 players, four of them come from the SAC.
Each of the respective teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Silva continues to haul in the postseason awards after being named All-SAC First Team and SAC Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The senior scored 11 goals and tallied four assists to help lead the Eagles to their eleventh SAC Regular Season Championship in program history. Silva also etched his name in the record books this season, becoming the Eagles' all-time leader in penalty kicks made after finding the back of the net against Newberry.
Silva earned national recognition earlier in the year when he became the first Eagle men's soccer player to be named the United Soccer Coaches Association's Player of the Week on Oct. 18.
With a 3.75 GPA, the four-time Eagle Scholar graduated with a degree in Communications in December 2020. Silva is currently pursuing an MBA and holds a grad school GPA of 3.80. Silva is the only Grad Student in the NCAA DII Region III and one of just 12 grad students to earn CoSIDA All-District honors in all of Division-II this season.
Off the pitch, he has also served as a Resident Assistant and has participated in community outreach through Operation Inasmuch and numerous team service outings with the Appalachian Center.
Silva is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Those honorees will be announced in early December.
