Bio
2025: A two-time SAC Player of the Week honoree on the year, Whitson was the team's leading rusher. He accounted for 583 yards on the ground and eight rushing TDs – averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Through the air, he completed 27-of-47 passes for 503 yards and six scores. Whitson was hyper efficient with what he did with the football in a 35-14 Homecoming win over UVA Wise. The senior signal-caller scored five touchdowns on 12 total offensive attempts while rushing for 133 yards and passing for 61. He scored three rushing touchdowns and two via the air. The three rushing TDs are the first hattrick of rushing scores for the program since Antonio Wimbush found the end zone three times against Tusculum in the regular season finale of 2019. The five totals TDs are the most since Derrick Evans scored a school record five rushing touchdowns at Lenoir-Rhyne in 2017. Whitson carried the ball nine times for 133 yards for his second career 100-yard rushing performance and the 386th all-time 100-yard rushing performance in school history. He was 2-for-3 through the air for the two scores and 61 yards. He finished with 194 yards of total offense. The Dobyns-Bennett product scored on rushing touchdowns of one, 60 and four yards. His passing touchdowns went for 29 yards to Don Bradley and 32 yards to Cam Ferguson. He also earned player of the week honors after beating Lenoir-Rhyne. Whitson is Carson-Newman's first quarterback to be named offensive player of the week by the conference office in more than 10 years, since De'Andre Thomas on Sept. 29, 2014. Thomas was recognized with player of the week honors three times in his career. Whitson was instrumental in guiding Carson-Newman to a 24-7 win over No. 19/17 Lenoir-Rhyne. The Dobyns-Bennett product became the first C-N QB to rush for more than 150 yards in a game since 2019. Derrick Evans was the last to do so, accomplishing the feat against Catawba on Oct. 12, 2019. Whitson tallied 177 yards on the ground with two touchdowns on 22 carries. Whitson turned in the 46th all-time 100-yard rushing performance by a C-N QB. Whitson had exactly 300 yards of total offense when factoring in his 7-of-9 day through the air for 123 yards passing. He completed a 45-yard pass to Cade Meeks for a third TD on the day. The senior's 63-yard fourth quarter run following a second lightning delay sealed the game for the Eagles.

2024: Whitson appeared in nine games with five starts in an injury-pockmarked campaing. The Eagles' signal caller ran the ball 82 times for 190 yards and four scores. Through the air, he completed 33-of-73 passes for 462 yards and six touchdowns against four picks. He was most productive through the air leading C-N's comeback win at Mars Hill (Oct. 12), when he completed 10-of-20 passes for 103 yards and two scores. He was 5-of-11 for 90 yards and three touchdowns at Catawba (Sept. 28). He had 56 yards rushing in consecutive weeks against UVA Wise (Oct. 19) and Emory & Henry (Oct. 26). He found the endzone twice on the ground against the Cavs.
2023: Whitson started the first three and the final three games of the year under center for the Eagles. He wrapped up the year completing 60-of-128 passes for 984 yards and nine touchdowns. He also ran the ball 43 times for 154 yards and a score. His best day passing came at UVA Wise when he was 10-of-14 through the air for 188 yards and three scores, including an 85-yard pitch and catch with Galen Washington.

2022: Carson-Newman's second-string quarterback in 2022, Whitson appeared in seven games for C-N. He completed seven of 19 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 14 times for 42 yards and a score. He saw extended time in the Eagles' opener at West Georgia (Sept. 1) due to an injury to starter Ivan Corbin. Whitson completed 3-of-8 passes for 40 yards against the Wolves, including a 29-yarder. He tosses his lone touchdown pass in the finale at Catawba (Nov. 12) when he hooked up with Korey Waters for a 27-yard TD. His lone rushing TD came at Mars Hill (Oct. 22).

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a four-year letterman in football and basketball at Dobyns Bennett High School, He earned 6A all-state honors twice while also being tabbed the 6A Region 1 MVP on two occasions. Was also a two-time Big East Conference Player of the Year. His TD to Interception Ratio was 40:3. Threw for 3,690 yards combined as a junior and senior. As a senior he threw for 1,783 yards, while rushing for 628 yards and nine touchdowns
